A Kansas City sushi spot will open its second location in an upscale Overland Park shopping center.
Kata Nori Hand Roll Bar will debut over the summer in Hawthorne Plaza, taking over the former André’s Confiserie Suisse spot. Interior construction is underway.
Kata Nori's original location is in the Crossroads Arts District at 404 E. 18th St. In Overland Park, it will offer a cocktail bar, table service, several new menu items, and the U-shaped bar seating that also adorns the Kansas City location.
It will serve lunch and dinner in Overland Park. This will be the shopping center's first dinner-focused restaurant under owner LANE4 Property Group, Managing Partner Michael Berenbom said. LANE4 acquired the retail center in 2022.
The restaurant calls itself the first of its kind in Kansas City, "focusing on the artistry of sushi hand rolls and crudos," according to its website. Hand rolls are eaten with your hands — utensils are not necessary. Chef Anh Pham leads the restaurant, bringing more than 20 years of experience in the sushi industry. Pham previously was a lead chef at Uchi, a James Beard award-winning sushi restaurant in Dallas, according to the release.
André’s closed its Overland Park location at 4929 W. 119th St. at the end of December after 23 years. Brigitte and Kevin Gravino — the husband-and-wife duo who own and operate the satellite location — decided to retire.
